Beechmont Stories is a grassroots community journalism publication that covers the east side of Cincinnati, and has earned the trust of the community since 2019. Founded by Anderson resident, writer and photographer Brian Vuyancih, Beechmont Stories serves to inform, entertain, and connect the Anderson Township community by showcasing the character and charm that is hidden in plain sight all around us.
After serving 15 years as a police officer and sergeant in the Cincinnati Police Department, Brian retired early to pursue his interests in photography and writing. Prior to retiring, he patrolled the streets of Price Hill, Westwood, Walnut Hills, Avondale, Roselawn, and other Cincinnati neighborhoods that he describes as being, “…chock-full of raw and fascinating people.” For years as a street cop, Brian kept personal journals documenting all the interesting people he encountered. It was something he missed doing after he hung up his police hat.
So, one day Brian decided to walk down Beechmont with a camera and look for the same kind of fascinating people he used to encounter as a street cop. Not bad guys necessarily; just real people; uncensored and perhaps a tad eccentric. That’s when he met Peanut in Cherry Grove, and wrote his first Beechmont Story.
The positive feedback was overwhelming. Beechmont Stories clearly struck a chord within the community.
Over time, Brian would add local businesses and notable people to his list of subjects to cover. He even wrote an opinion piece that earned him meetings with local politicians and speaking engagements with local groups.
